Respiratory Therapy Student, Clinical Externship

Position Summary
The Clinical Extern is a temporary position with the aim to provide Respiratory Therapy students relevant experience in patient care while working in a collaborative team environment. Clinical Externs are unregulated health care providers and must be directly or indirectly supervised by a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and may only perform tasks under direction from a RRT. The Clinical Extern collaborates with the team to provide excellent patient-centred care.

Primary Responsibilities
•Assist patients with the activities of daily living such as personal care, toileting, feeding, and recreational activities as noted in the care plan
• Assist with assessments and with obtaining vital signs under supervision of a RRT
• Cleaning and restocking of equipment:
o Ventilator
o CPAP and BiPAP
o Airvo 2 and 3
o Glidescope
o Intubation trays and bags
